I Got My Eyes Back

Happy Tuesday my loves, I’m so happy to be back on my blog and writing to you all with two eyes. The last two weeks have been very tough for my family and I. I don’t know how to explain it all but I’m going to give it a try.

As you know, I have been suffering from an eye infection for over three months and was off and on with my primary ophthalmologist. After a couple weeks of treatment with my doctor, we both thought it was an allergic reaction to my contact lens solution. So I was on some treatment and my eyes got better for a few days but the pain came right back and this time it was the worst. My doctor couldn’t find what was going on with the eyes. They seemed to look fine yet I was till in a lot of pain. I was referred to higher ophthalmologist and that’s when she told be I had a bacterial infection and the bacteria were doing harm on the first layer of my eyes. The fun but scary part was, you can see these little guys that were taking over my eyes! It took a very special and painful X-ray camera to spot them.
Apparently, there were a lot of the bacteria all over my eyes and I had to be rushed into surgery. I was also lucky, my doctor caught them before it was too late. So, I had surgery in both my eyes last Saturday, which happens to be the same day we were supposed to fly to Bali and Hong Kong. It was such a hard decision but my health is always first, which meant cancelling the entire trip at the last second.
The surgery went well but is was so scary, I had to be awake the whole time (only 20-25 minutes) while they cut off the first layers of both my eyes. My whole body went into shock mood and I couldn’t think right. I never thought something like this would happen to me.

I was blind for about two days and felt very very sick. I couldn’t walk or do anything, it felt like my world was falling apart. To be honest, I wasn’t sure I was going to be myself again but I did it. I spent a week in bed and in the Doctor’s office. My eyes are finally open again and are now healing. It takes about 4-6 months for me to get my full vision back. Well, I can see but everything is just out of focus. Also I’m on some medications that I have to take every hour and I have to wear solar comfort sunglasses. Crazy right?.
After being home and in bed for days, I was so excited to finally get out and see the world. I will tell you, the best part about all this is how much I appreciate the world we live in. We are so lucky to have what we have and to able to see. I was happy to feel the sun on my skin and see people even if they are out of focus. So I put on something cute and relaxing outfit, switched up my hair and drove (my boyfriend drove) and walked everywhere.
I can see again and no more pain for now, I’m so happy and grateful for all the love and support.

With that bring said, please be careful, all my contact lenses wearers. When you get cuts in your eyes from the contacts, you ‘re mostly to get this kind of infection or even worse from pools and beaches, so treat it with the utmost care. I’m happy to be back and recovering.

Thanks for Reading.

OMG Deddeh! I was waiting for a update on your eyes. I’m so glad that you’re recovering. So scary how you got the infection! I actually am new to wearing contacts (just got them like a month ago) and now I know why I was SO horrified of them for so long… the idea of sticking something into my eye and pinching it out just makes me cringe (though I’ve gotten better at it). May I ask what lens solution you used? And I can’t imagine how much pain you were in! Omggggg. I’m so glad the surgery went well though babe <3 sending you lots of love and light! xoxo, sharon

awwww! I miss you so much Deddeh! I’m so sad we only got to see each other once before I moved to PS, but that’s better than not at all. Please let me know if you ever make it out to the desert — I would love to take you out 🙂 I use Opti-Free as well as that’s the one that the optometrist provided me initially. I heard that some solutions sting a little bit when you put in the contacts, and since Opti-Free doesn’t sting for me I didn’t think twice about switching out. I will for sure take your tips into consideration though and have been really careful with putting contacts in and taking them out. I only really wear them when I absolutely need to (going out, driving, etc) but since I work from home luckily I can afford to give my eyes some days off like you’ve suggested 🙂 I was also told to never wear contacts to bed, but haven’t heard that about pool/beach water so I will keep that in mind from now on. Thanks for taking the time to write this post, to share your recovery process and also inform others. Please keep me updated babe and I’m keeping you in my thoughts and sending you positive vibes your way! Lots of love XO

I am so happy you are ok! That sounds so scary. I wear contacts for vision and I am always paranoid with keeping my lenses clean and not having my nails too long so I don’t hurt myself when I take my contacts out or put them in. I feel for you did! But so happy you were strong to make it thru *hugs*

I can’t believe everything you had to deal with! That’s so frightening and frustrating, and I’m so sorry you had to go through all that (and are still sorta going through it – 4 to 6 months is a long wait!) I’m glad to hear you’re on the mend now though, and that things are getting easier for you. Here’s to a super quick recovery, beautiful lady!

Wow, what a horrible experience that you had to endure. I am so sorry that you had your vision taken away and have to go through the recovery process. However, I am happy to hear that all went well and you will soon see fully again. Such a scary thought to lose your vision and to go through something like this. I am sure it has really put things into perspective and also made you appreciate the simplest things in life. You look amazing and I love this outfit and backdrop. Thank you for sharing this personal experience with us. I know you will continue to get better and stronger and sending you lots of positive vibes. xoxo, Christine

I’m so happy you have your eyesight back and that your doctor caught the bacterial infection so early! Good thing that you chose to have the emergency surgery over your holiday as now you can go on another holiday and see it! xx

I am so extremely happy for you!! I remember you mentioning in your last post about your eyes, but I didn’t realize how serious the problem was. That’s so crazy the higher ophthalmologist discovered the bacteria before it was too late… what a floe call! You have THE most beautiful eyes – I’m sure this experience made you cherish them even more 🙂

Dear lord what a trip you’ve gone through!! I knew parts of it, but not how bad it was and all I can say is that I’m SO happy you’re ok and healing. What we learn from things like these is to never take life for granted and to do as much as you can. Fine, you had to cancel Bali and Hong Kong for now, but thank God you did. Now you’ll experience those places later on when you can actually enjoy them for real too!
    Much love,
    Thomas

Omg thank you so much for sharing this!! I am so happy to hear that you have recovered and can see. I went through something similar when I used to wear contact lenses and it was so hard. I eventually ended up getting laser eye surgery and it was the best thing I ever did! Also, totally loving your top, your hair, you sunnies, and everything in these pics. Haha
